About us

Uptick makes software for companies that maintain life, health and safety assets in buildings, and their vision is to make the world’s buildings safer through transparency. Since they started in 2014, they have grown the team to over 80+ staff members in three countries.

About the role

Uptick's Senior Product Manager will be responsible for running our product function and ensure we achieve our product roadmap as we continue to scale abroad.

The Product Manager role will report directly to the CEO, and work alongside a fantastic CTO and large engineering team. You'll be comfortable executing product plan milestones and have a good understanding of technology - what's easy, and what's not.

As the Uptick Product Manager will need to get deep with our customers and prospective customers, understanding their hopes, dreams, bugbears and delights. You'll need to plan the build of our product engine, assimilating information from sales, marketing, implementation and success, creating an empowered product team not a feature factory.

Main tasks:

  • Deeply understand the why and guide the engineering team to deliver it. We run a lean process, with an exceptionally talented engineering team. Challenge everything until you understand the core nugget of value.
  • Execute on the vision, we're in scale up mode, not hunting for product market fit. We need someone who is relentless at delivering value to customers, a hands-on leader who loves building things, guiding a team to meet project milestones with the best utilisation of our resources, budget, and time.
  • Manage the backlog, tame the chaos, make the hard calls. Just because it's the top priority doesn't mean we can spend a whole sprint on it. You'll need to be able to juggle priorities and maintain pace.
  • Tell the story. You need to understand where we're going, why we're going there, and be able to communicate with exceptional clarity to your stakeholders (customers and colleagues), both at the macro level (the mutli-year roadmap) and the release level (every month).
  • Dream big AND see small. We're the most expensive product in our market, our customers expect great things, but it's the details that change the life of our users. You need to be equally comfortable in turning our big bets into reality, as you do in noticing that there's a quick win for a sucky but important widget.
  • Become an absolute expert on our industry and customers, and use that knowledge to drive great decision making.
  • Tie-in each of the primary business functions (support, marketing, sales, implementation) to build a high performing product engine team that delivers product releases that customers love.
  • Work effectively with the engineering team to build knowledge, not specifications, and haggle the competing priorities of moving fast while maintaining an excellent code-base for our business -critical product.
  • Lead the Product and Design teams to guide, support and develop them to deliver value for our customers, meeting milestones, on time and in budget.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor Degree or Higher, may be substituted with at least five years relevant experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven Stakeholder management skills and the ability to management their competing demands
  • Endlessly curious so you get to heart of the issue.
  • Customer obsessive. Wake up thinking about how to add value for our customers
  • There for the team. You are at your best when working with other great people

Relevant experience:

  • 5+ years experience in a product management position at a SaaS B2B or B2E startup/scaleup.
  • Solid understanding and interest in product management and agile project management principles, but more importantly, battle-won experience in building great product.
  • Experience leading other Product Managers and/or Designers.
  • Bonus points for: Previous experience in field service management or an understanding of our customer base.
