About Hullbot
Hullbot builds autonomous underwater robots that clean and inspect ship hulls. We're on a mission to decarbonise the global maritime industry: a clean hull burns less fuel, so every clean our robots do is less fuel burned and fewer emissions at sea. Our systems are already deployed in locations around the world, and we're growing fast.
We're a small Sydney team that designs, builds and operates the robots ourselves, so the building is full of robotics engineers, robot operators, 3D printers, test tanks and the people who keep it all running. That's who you'll be supporting, and it's a long way from a typical office.
The role
You'll be the first person people come to when something isn't working, in a company where IT is a team of two: you and our IT & Infrastructure Lead, who you'll work alongside every day.
The job is IT support done properly. Laptops, accounts, onboarding, the storeroom, the asset register, software licences, the office network. You'll fix what you can, escalate what you can't, and learn from every escalation so the next one is yours.
This is a support-focused role with a long runway. You might be a recent graduate with solid foundations, or you've got a first support role behind you and you're ready for broader scope. If you want to build real depth in IT support and grow with the company over time, in an environment that's a long way from a standard helpdesk, this is the role for you.
What you'll do
- Be the first point of contact for IT support across the company: triage, fix, escalate, and keep people unblocked.
- Look after laptops end to end: setup, enrolment, repairs, loaners, replacements and retirement. Most of our staff laptops run Ubuntu, so you'll be helping people on Linux as often as on Windows.
- Own onboarding and off-boarding: hardware ready on day one, accounts created, access removed cleanly when people leave.
- Handle day-to-day accounts and permissions across Google Workspace, JumpCloud, Slack and Notion.
- Run the IT storeroom: spares, consumables, loan kit, and a tidy stock count.
- Keep the asset register accurate as devices move between people, sites and the field.
- Track software licences and subscriptions so we know what we have, who's using it, and when it renews.
- Support the office: Wi-Fi, meeting rooms, printing, shared workstations.
- Keep the simple stuff documented: short guides and runbooks that let people help themselves.
What you'll grow into
Support is the heart of the role, and it's also your launchpad. As you build confidence, you'll be handed more of the systems side, deliberately and with a senior teaching you along the way.
- Endpoint management: device policies, patching, disk encryption and security tooling across the fleet.
- Field equipment: the laptops and routers that travel with our robots.
- Systems housekeeping: the day-to-day care of our servers, NAS and network, as you build confidence.
- Small projects of your own, scoped so you can run them end to end.
There's a long runway here, and we want you growing along it with us.
What we're looking for
We care more about how you think and how you treat people than about certifications or years on a CV. If most of this sounds like you, apply.
- A genuine service mindset. Helping a colleague with a tech problem is the job, not an interruption to it, and you feel good when your work lets other people get on with theirs.
- Some hands-on IT experience: a helpdesk or support role, an internship, or a home lab you've actually built and broken.
- Comfortable supporting Ubuntu, or solid Windows support skills with real Linux curiosity you can show us (a home machine, a Pi, a uni project, anything hands-on).
- The L1 fundamentals: hardware and basic network troubleshooting, and some idea of how storage and NAS work.
- Switched on. You notice things, ask good questions, and work a problem through rather than waiting to be told the answer.
- Initiative. When you're stuck, you have a go, then ask, and you don't need a nudge to pick the next thing up.
- Clear, patient communication, especially with people who aren't technical, and the ability to write a short guide someone else can follow.
- Organised, with follow-through. Issues get closed, not forgotten.
- Energised by a small team where your work is seen, and keen to make the support role your own.
Nice to have, not required:
- Admin experience with Google Workspace, JumpCloud or any device management platform.
- Comfort on the command line, and any scripting for automation.
- Hands-on time with Wi-Fi, switches or routers beyond the home kind.
- Experience with a ticketing or helpdesk tool.
- Relevant IT certifications.
You'll thrive here if you
- Like being the person who fixes things, and take real satisfaction in other people's work going smoothly.
- Take pride in the craft of support. A clean asset register and a tidy access list are quietly satisfying.
- Would rather document a problem away than solve it the same way five times.
- Are curious about how systems actually work, not just which button closes the ticket.
- Are comfortable in a startup where things change, and you can help shape how they're done.
- Care about ocean health and want your work to count towards something real.
The practical bits
- Full-time, based at our Sydney office in the Inner West.
- On-site five days a week. There's flex when life needs it, but this is a hands-on role and the hardware is here.
- Out-of-hours work is rare, but it can happen. You'll know what to expect before you start.
- You must have full Australian working rights.
Why Hullbot
- Your work supports real robots solving a real environmental problem, and you'll see them being built on your way to your desk.
- A dedicated senior to learn from, every day, not a manager you see once a quarter.
- A voice in how we do things. Good ideas get heard and used here, whoever they come from.
- An environment most support roles never see: Linux fleets, field kit, and a company still small enough that your work is visible and appreciated.
- A role that grows with you, at the pace you earn it.
