About Us

At Hullbot we're on a mission to decarbonise the global maritime industry.

We're delivering autonomous underwater robots that inspect and clean ship hulls. Hullbot’s systems are actively deployed in locations around the world, maintaining hulls free of biofouling, reducing fuel use and cutting emissions.

United by a shared ambition to create environmental impact on a global scale, we move fast and solve complex technical challenges together.

If you want to work on real robotic solutions with measurable impact, solving one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges, Hullbot is the place to do it.

The Role

Hullbot is looking for an Senior Electrical Engineer who thrives in early-stage product development — where requirements evolve, constraints are still forming, and the path forward isn’t fully defined.

You’ll be responsible for architecting, designing and debugging real electrical systems that power and control tightly integrated robotic platforms — ones that have to operate reliably in a harsh marine environment.

You’ll work alongside mechanical, robotics and software engineers to develop a product that doesn’t just function electrically — it swims. That means power electronics, motor control, sensing, system integration, and hardware that survives in the real world.

If you’re just as happy getting hands on and implementing with the team as you are designing systems at the whiteboard — this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Design system architectures for new products
  • Design custom PCBs for processor integration, sensing, and actuation
  • Integrate motors, ESCs, sensors, and embedded controllers into a cohesive system
  • Debug hardware in real-world conditions, not just on the bench
  • Collaborate tightly with:
  • Product owners and systems engineers on product direction and system integration
  • Mechanical engineers on packaging, thermal constraints, sealing, and routing
  • Software engineers on embedded control, communications, and system behaviour
  • Balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and safety
  • Move designs from concept through to functional prototype

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of hands-on electrical design experience in product development or R&D
  • Strong ECAD skills - both schematic capture and PCB design (Altium preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience designing PCBs for volume manufacture
  • Experience designing and testing medium/high power electronics (>1kW, >120V)
  • Strong experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers
  • Comfortable working with evolving requirements and ambiguous constraints
  • Experience bringing up full systems — not just subcircuits

You’ll Thrive Here If You…

  • Prefer open-ended engineering challenges over tightly defined tasks
  • Can move from concept sketch → schematic → layout → prototype → debug
  • Are comfortable owning entire subsystems
  • Think in terms of integrated systems, not isolated boards
  • Want to build hardware that operates in the real world, not just in simulation

Bonus Experience

  • Designing for harsh, outdoor, or marine environments
  • Rapid prototyping and quick iteration cycles
  • System-level thinking across electrical, mechanical, and software domains
  • Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers

Why Hullbot?

  • See your work be brought to life, deployed solving real world problems
  • High ownership and influence over product direction in a small tight-knit team
  • Fast iteration cycles and hands-on prototyping in a collaborative R&D environment
  • Opportunities for rapid learning and personal development
