About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

The Role

We’re on the hunt for a passionate Product Designer who thrives on creating exceptional UI design to help us unlock our ‘next-generation’ user experience and interface. Using cutting-edge technology and techniques, you’ll explore the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning for our customers, creating experiences that surpass expectations and set a new benchmark for crime intelligence.

You will join our highly collaborative Product team, responsible for shipping great products from discovery through to delivery. You’ll play a critical role in designing the experiences we provide our customers, enabling our business to scale and take our software to the world.

At Auror, our Product squad works in streams, each with representatives from Product Management, Product Design, Quality Assurance, and Software Engineering. This way of working fosters collaboration and encourages innovation among the team.

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Help design the next generation of Auror’s UI across mobile and web, especially focussing on our Store Audit product and Mobile stream.
  • Working with your Product Manager and Engineering Lead to identify areas for exploration; Identifying how design can help increase understanding and reduce the risk of new features.
  • Involve yourself in the end-to-end design of products from discovery, research, testing, launching, and post-launch improvements. This includes partnering with a number of different people, internally and externally and bringing them along the journey.
  • Help shape the design practice internally within the design team and across the wider business, contributing to developing best practices.
  • You’ll have experience in user testing, including writing scripts, developing research plans, and synthesizing and sharing results with the business.
  • Be proficient in Figma, with experience creating world-class user interfaces, interactive prototypes and design systems.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the ethical impact of your work, ensuring the creation of tools and services for good, and considering the wider implications of your work on users, law enforcement, and the individuals whose information is stored on our platform.

This role reports to Tanja Kolrus, Product Design Lead.

I kicked off my journey in multimedia with ActionScript and Lingo, totally fascinated by making pixels move in all sorts of ways. That fascination led me to study Information and Interaction Design, which took me to agencies across Europe. I focused on UI work there and eventually worked my way up to an art director role. In 2014, I relocated to New Zealand and transitioned into my first in-house product design team, where I embraced a more user-centered UX approach.

Trust and collaboration are at the core of everything I do. When Auror’s previous design director asked me to join the team, I was genuinely excited—our past work together at another company had been really great. Now, I’m looking forward to building on that solid, trusting foundation by finding the right person to help grow our design team.
