About Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to stop theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 12 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good and prioritize privacy by design principles.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

The Role

At Auror, we're a high-growth technology company committed to innovation and responsible use of technology. As we continue to expand and evolve, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Counsel to join our team.

We are looking for a skilled and proactive General Counsel who will play a crucial role in guiding our company through company, legal, and regulatory matters while upholding our commitment to privacy and responsible technology use. The ideal candidate will have a strong legal background with a deep understanding of technology law, intellectual property, privacy regulations, and compliance frameworks. They should also possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, along with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and a bias towards action. We work with privacy and legal teams from the biggest retailers in the world, as well as working with Privacy Commissions and Law Enforcement Agencies. You will report to the CFO and work closely with our CEO who has a commercial law and privacy background, our Commercial Team, and our Global Trust, Safety, and Public Policy team.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal issues.
  • Oversee and manage all legal affairs globally, including contracts, intellectual property, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to ensure compliance with privacy regulations, and other relevant laws.
  • Overseeing Company structure, and assisting with capital raising.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents with partners, and vendors. Partner with the Commercial team, providing guidance and support for our commercial lawyers on customer agreements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify legal risks and opportunities and provide proactive solutions.
  • Keep on top of legal and regulatory developments in the technology industry and advise the company on potential impacts and opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies.
  • Deliver training sessions and provide guidance to our team on legal and compliance matters.
  • Manage and resolve legal disputes and litigation as necessary.

You will be reporting to Annemaree Shaw, Chief Financial Officer

I joined Auror 2 years ago having spent the prior 8 years of my career working in the NZ growth saas space.

Previously I had worked for medium sized companies in both London and Auckland, and now I have really found my place working with companies like Auror, that are destined to grow into something mighty and a little bit different, with lots of clever people that make the journey fun along the way.

I am passionate about finance being a partner at Auror and not the accountant in the corner, where the numbers tell a great story and we can make everything we do in the background easy so all the other teams can get on with their day jobs. Whilst also making sure leaders have the right information to make good decisions. I am a people-led manager, always open to new ideas and here to guide, but want you to feel empowered to take the lead and own your patch. Outside of work, I have 10-year-old twin boys. As a family we love nothing more than being outside, playing at the beach in the summer, and in the snow in the winter. Check out my LinkedIn here.
